How to identify a Terminal

Terminals are UNSC consoles containing written Halo lore. An unactivated console glows red, then turns green after use. Listen for the nearby collectible sound, interact with X on Xbox, Square on PlayStation or E on keyboard, and read unlocked entries later through Collectibles on the main menu.

Halo Support confirms one Terminal and three hidden Skulls in each of the 13 missions. You can return through mission select if you miss a console. This guide is ordered by the main campaign first, then the bonus missions. For the matching 39 Skull routes, use The Astromech’s skull location guide.

Completion target: Activating all 13 earns Lore Have Mercy. Finding every Terminal and all 39 Skulls earns Collector’s Addition. Each mission also has its own achievement for its Terminal and three Skulls.

The August 17 update reset saves made partway through a mission, while keeping unlocked missions and Rally Points. If an achievement is delayed, consult Halo Support’s achievement guidance before repeating a collection run.

The original campaign: missions 1 to 10

Terminal 01 of 13 // The Pillar of Autumn

Approach: return to the cryo bay overlook

Landmark and timing

During the objective to evacuate the Pillar of Autumn, you return to the cryo section. Enter the control room overlooking the chamber where Chief began the game. A doorway here is marked C04U, and Cortana comments on the Covenant trying to catch Chief asleep.

Location and access route

Walk through the control room and out its far door. Immediately hug the left wall and double back into the dark, red-lit side room beside the overlook. The console is against the wall toward the back right. If you have reached the next stretch of corridor, you have gone past the little room.

Mission achievement
Clean Sweep.

Terminal 02 of 13 // Halo

Forgotten: beneath the Warthog tunnel

Landmark and timing

After you get the Warthog, drive into the first unnatural, metallic Forerunner tunnel. Shortly after the first right bend, you reach a stretch with two ramps. Brake before accelerating up and out of this section. The opening you need is a large break in the wall on your right.

Location and access route

Leave the Warthog and step through that opening. Drop onto the first small ledge, then turn back toward the wall you just came through before dropping any farther. The red-lit Terminal sits on this ledge. Going all the way down or driving past the gap is the common way to miss it.

Mission achievement
Successful Search.

Terminal 03 of 13 // Truth and Reconciliation

Inquisitor: search a prison cell

Landmark and timing

Your objective is to rescue Captain Keyes from the ship’s brig. After a hallway with three Jackals, you enter a larger room defended by Elites and lined with several doors. Clear it so you can orient yourself without being pushed toward the objective marker.

Location and access route

From the entrance to that room, use the doors immediately on your right to enter a side prison chamber. Operate the central control to lower the cell barriers. Search the cells on the lower level, especially the cell on the far wall with a fallen marine and ammunition. The Terminal is fixed to the wall inside the cell; this is a different chamber from the one holding Keyes.

Mission achievement
Plundered.

Terminal 04 of 13 // The Silent Cartographer

Status Update: behind the security substation

Landmark and timing

The main cartographer entrance has locked you out, so your objective changes to finding the security override at another underground installation. Inside that second facility, fight the pair of Hunters on foot. Just beyond them is the holographic control panel Cortana wants you to use.

Location and access route

Before activating the panel and heading back toward the beach, continue along the same corridor to its far end. Look around the back of the short, split metal wall or plinth near the substation. The Terminal is tucked behind it and can be hidden from sight when you approach the objective console head-on.

Mission achievement
Buried Treasure.

Terminal 05 of 13 // Assault on the Control Room

Tangent I: the fork in the snowy ravine

Landmark and timing

After acquiring the Scorpion, cross the bridge and climb the ice tunnel into a wider outdoor ravine. A Covenant dropship unloads enemies as you emerge. Ahead sits a tall Forerunner structure at a fork, close to the route a tank would naturally take.

Location and access route

Get out of the Scorpion and find a doorway at the base of that central structure. Clear the enemies inside, ascend the interior ramp and step onto the upper balcony. Check the corner of the balcony for the Terminal. The red glow is easier to spot once you are above road level; watch for enemy fire from the open ravine while approaching.

Mission achievement
Stowed in Snow.

Terminal 06 of 13 // 343 Guilty Spark

Tangent II: detour during the Flood escape

Landmark and timing

After the Flood reveal, the mission switches to an escape. You retrace part of the facility, and a damaged elevator interrupts the obvious route. In the following rooms, look for the chamber with a newly active light bridge and a darker side room from which Flood enemies emerge.

Location and access route

Pause before crossing the light bridge. Enter the dark room off to the right instead and move around the long central partition. The Terminal is against the rear wall, obscured by that divider from the doorway. The enemies and low light make it easy to run through without checking behind the structure.

Mission achievement
Proto Gravemind.

Terminal 07 of 13 // The Library

Tangent III: open the other door

Landmark and timing

After the first lift, fight through the Flood while 343 Guilty Spark opens the route ahead. In the next hub room are two interactive panels. The objective points toward the panel and doorway on your right.

Location and access route

Activate the panel on the left and use the left-hand door. A further doorway is clogged with Flood growth; shoot or grenade the blockage, then crouch through the opening. Turn the corner into the small room with a dead would-be Reclaimer. The Terminal is there beside the body. Check this side room before returning to the marked route.

Mission achievement
Timeless Tomes.

Terminal 08 of 13 // Two Betrayals

Alone: behind the opening platform

Landmark and timing

You start in Halo’s control room immediately after the cutscene in which Cortana confronts 343 Guilty Spark about the ring. Flying Sentinels attack in the same chamber. There is no long search through the snow for this one.

Location and access route

Once you can move safely, turn back toward the large hologram and walk around the circular platform to the space behind it. The Terminal is on the far side of the room, behind Chief’s initial position. Find it before following the objective out of the control room.

Mission achievement
Outpost Discoveries.

Terminal 09 of 13 // Keyes

Consumed: beyond the shuttle bay

Landmark and timing

Once back aboard the Covenant ship, push forward until the objective changes from “Get to the shuttle bay” to “Ascend to the upper deck.” That change marks the shuttle bay and Rally Point Charlie. The Terminal is in a side corridor off this area, before the route to Keyes.

Location and access route

On entering the bay, turn left and go through the door ahead rather than ascending toward the objective. Clear the enemies in the adjoining passages. From that doorway, follow the corridor bends left, left, right, then left to an alcove ending at a sealed door. The console stands immediately in front of the sealed door. If you reach Keyes, return to the shuttle bay.

Mission achievement
Priorities.

Terminal 10 of 13 // The Maw

Arrival: pause in the mess hall

Landmark and timing

Early in the return to the wrecked Pillar of Autumn, the route toward the bridge passes through its mess hall or cafeteria. Rows of dining tables and damaged fixtures distinguish it from the ship’s tighter corridors.

Location and access route

Enter the mess hall and scan the right-hand wall before taking the exit. The Terminal is set back in a shallow recess between damaged wall-mounted machines. Its red light can blend into the ship’s emergency lighting, so walk along that wall and listen for the collectible sound.

Mission achievement
No Rush.

Operation: METEORITE: the three new missions

The bonus story takes Chief and Sergeant Johnson aboard the Covenant vessel Triumph of Tolerance before the events on Installation 04. These missions account for Terminals 11 to 13 and are easy to miss if you stop after the original campaign’s ending.

Terminal 11 of 13 // Boarding Action

The Path: double back after the gravity lift

Landmark and timing

Late in the infiltration of the Triumph of Tolerance, you enter the chamber with the vertical gravity lift, shortly after the small room containing the Leadhead Skull. Clear the Covenant here. Johnson says he will get the lift working, then reverses it so you can ride upward.

Location and access route

Let the beam carry you to the upper level, but do not follow the waypoint out. Turn completely around while still near the lift and inspect the blue-lit doors behind it. Go through the unlocked door on the right. The Terminal is on the right wall almost as soon as you step into the short passage.

Mission achievement
Souvenirs.

Terminal 12 of 13 // The Most Dangerous Game

Penitent Report: the room beside the holding pods

Landmark and timing

After rescuing soldiers with Johnson and Williams, you arrive at a room with a window overlooking rows of containment pods. Williams remarks that the captives have been packed for shipping. Use that dialogue and the pods as your cue to stop.

Location and access route

The objective leads through the door across the room. Instead, face the pod window and inspect the side door to your right. It opens into a small storage room with a raised central section. The red Terminal is standing there in the middle, away from the main route.

Mission achievement
Brute Loops.

Terminal 13 of 13 // Heavy Burden

Harmonious Clarity: stay on the lower level

Landmark and timing

Rally Point Bravo brings you to the large bridge chamber with a giant hologram. Finish the Covenant fight, including the pair of Hunters. Johnson then draws you toward the door on the upper level; following him immediately takes you away from the Terminal.

Location and access route

Stay on the ground floor. At the rear of the central chamber, find the unlocked doors beneath the route Johnson takes. Move through them into the armory, pass the weapon storage pods and continue through the next set of doors into the last room. The console is on the rear left, partly hidden behind the racks.

Mission achievement
Parting Gifts.

Before you chase the last achievement

Check Collectibles in the main menu to identify missing entries. For a mission achievement, you also need that mission’s three Skulls. Lore Have Mercy requires the 13 Terminal interactions; Collector’s Addition requires every Terminal and all 39 Skulls.

Halo Support says some unlocks can take 24 to 72 hours. Its August update fixed an issue where achievements earned offline failed to appear after reconnecting. If your total looks correct and an award has not appeared, follow the official troubleshooting steps linked below.

Naming note: Halo Support’s Terminal list currently associates Harmonious Clarity with “Bitter Harvest,” but its achievement table assigns the relevant completion award to Heavy Burden. The playable mission and the location described here are Heavy Burden.
