Who are the Engineers in the Alien / Prometheus films?

The Engineers in the Alien film franchise are a mysterious and enigmatic species, with their origins and motives largely unknown. They are shown to be a highly advanced civilization, with technology and knowledge far beyond that of humanity. Their technology is capable of creating life, terraforming planets, and manipulating DNA.

In the film Prometheus, the Engineers are initially portrayed as a peaceful and benevolent species. They are responsible for creating life on Earth by seeding the planet with their own DNA. However, the mission of the human crew is to discover the reason why the Engineers abandoned their creation, and they find that the Engineers intended to destroy humanity. The film raises questions about the motivations of the Engineers and their relationship with humanity.

In contrast, the Engineers in Alien: Covenant are depicted as a violent and aggressive species.

The film reveals that the Engineers created the Xenomorphs as a biological weapon, intended to destroy any civilization they deemed unworthy. The film also explores the relationship between the Engineers and humanity, and the reasons behind their hostility towards humans.

The role of the Engineers in the Alien franchise is to provide a deeper understanding of the origins of life and the relationship between humanity and the unknown. Their technology and knowledge are crucial to the plot, and the creation of the Xenomorphs is a central plot point in the series.
